What Fossils can you find at Easton Wood?


(Whale Rib) - 1990

Bones that can be found at Easton Wood Cliff include Whale, Walrus, Deer, Mammoth and Horse. The above photo shows a Broken Whale Rib in Situ, laying in the Crag Sands (The Bright Orange colour to the right of the photo, below this layer is the Basement Bed where harder, larger and more well preserved bones are found.

A wide range of Mollusc Fauna can be collected from the six rich shell beds, small mammal remains such as Vole, Screw and Fox can be found in these, along with bird and frog, these can also be found in the crag sands. The photo below shows a large bird bone which was found in the Crag Sands Bed (XI).
